THE BIBLE IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Don’t settle for anything less than the absolute best that God has for you. Take the time to honor God by reading the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God, and it’s GOOD for us. Through His word He speaks to us, and in these pages we find peace, wisdom and understanding.

Didn’t start with us? That’s OK! You can choose to start at the beginning and just read one day at a time and check it off, or you can start on the day we are currently on. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t start at the beginning or if you missed a day (or 2 or 10!). Don’t overcomplicate it. Don’t overthink it. The Bible is GOOD for you, but it only works if you pick it up and read it!

So let’s do this together.

MONTHLY READINGS

January.

In January, in the Old Testament, we will be starting Genesis and getting in to the first bit of Exodus. And in the New Testament we will be starting Matthew with a few chapters of Mark at the end of the month. And we will read one chapter from the book of Proverbs each day!

February.

In February, in the Old Testament, we will be continuing through Exodus and getting into Leviticus as well. And in the New Testament we will read through the end of Mark and the first half of Luke. Read Proverbs again this month. Everyday. You can choose to read the extra chapters at the end of the month if you want, or simply read through the 28th.

March.

In March, in the Old Testament, we will be finishing up Leviticus, reading all of Numbers, and on the last day of the month starting Deuteronomy, the last book of the Pentateuch (or, the first 5 books of the bible, also called the Torah). And in the New Testament we will read through the end of Luke and all of the book of John, and on the last day of the month, start Luke’s second writing, the book of Acts. Read Proverbs again this month. Everyday. March has 31 days, so it’s perfect for the book of Proverbs!

April.

In April, in the Old Testament, we will be reading Deuteronomy and Joshua. And in the New Testament we will read through the book of Acts and almost all of the book of Romans. Continue to read Proverbs every day, and with only 30 days, you can choose to read the extra chapter on the last day, or just complete the 30 chapters in 30 days.

May.

May is a big month, or at least as far as books we will be getting into! Because we’re reading some small books, especially in the New Testament, we’ll actually be in 13 different books of the bible this month! In the Old Testament we’ll start off in Judges, and then go through Ruth, 1 Samuel, and get into 2 Samuel at the end of the month. And for the New Testament, we’ll finish Romans, and then on to 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians!

June.

Another big month! We will be in 15 books of the bible. A lot of small letters in the New Testament, as we come close to finishing the New Testament for the first time. And next month we’ll be restarting it.

Again, continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom there!

July.

Well, this is going to be a bit of an interesting month. We’ll finish 2 Kings, and then get into 1 & 2 Chronicles, which is basically a repeat and commentary on 1 & 2 Kings. We will also be finishing the New Testament by finishing the last few chapters of the book of Revelation. Now you have 2 options. On the 8th of July we will start reading the New Testament for a second time, but this time, if you want to, you can read it in chronological order, which means, in the order of the events that took place (not the order it was written, or the order it’s put into the bible). This is really enjoyable, especially through the 4 gospel accounts, because it shows the harmony of the gospels as well as you aren’t restarting the same story 4 times, but you get to go through the whole thing once.

I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!

  • Make sure you look at each date because there are multiple lines of reading for some dates. Don’t worry, you won’t be reading any more than you did the first time through, it’s about the same amount of content each day, but the order is listed by event on the timeline, so you may be going back and forth between the books a bit.

August.

Lots of books in the Old Testament this month. We’ll finish up 2 Chronicles in the first couple days and then into Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job and the starting of Psalms.

Then, in the New Testament if you’re following the regular reading plan you’ll be in Mark and Luke, and if you’ve started the Chronological reading plan, which I am really enjoying, you’ll be all over the place! Once we get through the 3rd month we’ll be through the four gospels and then the jumping around slows down. But because the four gospels are all the same time frame, there is a lot of back and forth across the pages! Enjoy it. Enjoy reading through the life of Jesus this way.

And of course, I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!

September.

In the Old Testament we’ll finish up Ecclesiastes, then on to Song of Songs, and then the rest of the month we will be in the book of the prophet Isaiah.

In the New Testament this month we are finishing up the gospels and starting the book of Acts. Pay special attention as you are reading through the book of John - it is such a great book that goes deep into the heart of Jesus and the great work he has done.

And of course, I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!

October.

The prophets wrote some big books in the Old Testament! You’ll spend most of the month in Jeremiah and Ezekiel, while finishing up Isaiah on day 1 and Lamentations between the two. The prophets also were speaking through many years and at different times. If you can, do some research about who the prophet was and who he was speaking to. If not, don’t get discouraged if you don’t quite understand what is going on. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the words of scripture!

Where you will be all depends on whether you are going through the New Testament as it is written (canonical order) or if you are reading it in the timeline that it was taking place (chronological order). Acts, Romans & 1 Corinthians in canonical and all over the place in chronological! You’ll see how Acts is sort of an overview of the New Testament as you weave in and out of Acts and the other books.

And of course, I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!

November.

In the Old Testament we’ll be finishing up the book of Isaiah on day one, and then getting into another long Prophetic book, Jeremiah. We’ll also be starting Ezekiel, another big one, after Jeremiah and a smaller book, Lamentations.

Depending on whether you are reading Canonical or Chronological will determine where you are at in the New Testament. But, either way you’ll be mostly in the letters written by the Apostle Paul.

And of course, I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!

December.

It’s the last month of the year, which means you’ll be finishing up both the New Testament and the Old Testament. That means 14 different books in the Old Testament!

Much of the New Testament is the same no matter which you are following, Canonical or Chronological, although there are some differences. But as with the Old Testament, you’ll be finishing the New Testament as well, but of course this is the second time through it! So, well done! You’ll be in 10 different books of the New Testament!

And of course, I encourage you to continue reading through Proverbs everyday. There’s wisdom in those pages!
